Name of Study
The Niger Delta Pressure Study, Nigeria
Deep & Ultra Deep Water
GeoPressure
The basis of our studies is a regional geological pressure model and that the regional model informs of the local situation.  "The regional informs the local".
About the Study

The Department of Petroleum Resources in Nigeria awarded the Niger Delta pressure study to Sonar Nigeria Limited in association with Ikon GeoPressure.

The study investigates:

  • Distribution and control on overpressures.
  • Trap integrity assessment – seal breach risking and top seal failure.
  • Evidence for lateral transfer (leading to higher than expected pressures when drilling).
  • Lateral drainage and implications for migration, hydrodynamic flow and tilted OWCs.
  • Mechanisms of overpressure generation and pore pressure prediction from shales, including seismic-based prediction.
  • Development of fracture and overburden pressure algorithms (to assist pre-drill prediction).
